These Days Will Pass, As All The Others Have.

This page is an homage to the Japanese printmakers who have had and continue to be an inspiration to me. It is also a love letter to Lynn, Courtenay, Josh, and Byron Birdsall who showed me the portal to the artist’s path. It is also a reminder that all days come and go, and each is a tender, fragile, gift.

The ocean shows herself a thousand times in a single moment. Each moment is the same and different. The light, the wind, the tides, the sun and moon, the temperature all vary from second to second revealing endless views of reality. No view is the same view twice, no moment is the same moment twice, if only we pay attention.

Repetition is how we learn our craft, how we nurture our skill. By repetition and making subtle changes, iterations, we slowly improve. We see new bits of information, we see direction in our work. By iterating too quickly, we miss the noticing, by iterating to slowly we do not challenge ourselves. This balance of how we move forward is subtle and important. Mistakes are inevitable and necessary for growth. Some mistakes can be corrected, others we must live with.

Each of these drawings is an exercise in living moment to moment and being curious. Enjoy.
